If given national approval, CPRE will host a well publicised competition to award 10 rural communities in Rutland and Lincolnshire centenary recognition, optional ownership and refurbishment of their local listed telephone box that is currently neglected and needs refurbishment. A Centenary plaque with the CPRE Logo and contact information will identify the boxes once the work is completed.
One element of the competition will be the proposed future plans for the boxes (Some are libraries, wifi hot spots, meeting places, defibrillator hosts, parish council noticeboards etc. A few still have telephones!)
A primary objective will be to highlight the past and present role of CPRE with the project being used to attract willing volunteers and potential new members.
It is proposed that leading the judging panel will be The King’s Representatives in the two counties. The Lord Lieutenants of Rutland and Lincolnshire.
